I need Help!

I'm a Mechanical engineering student that has a design project this semester and I need some opinions from you guys. I want to design some kind of survival tool what would be light weight and portable for backpackers/campers. If you could respond with some ideas with products that would make life easier for you I would greatly appreciate it.

Someone beat you to it: the Leatherman Squirt. Works near perfect for me. But something like that may be fodder for other ideas. Nothing is actually perfect for every use/condition.
