Paw Balm

So I've recently heard that a lot of hikers/backpackers use paw balm for their dogs. Does anyone use balm for their dogs? If so could you explain when you use it and the benefits. Thanks in advance!

I've occasionally used "Musher's Secret" on my dog's feet...I find it does help protect feet from ice and snow, and I think it's a good moisturizer and measure against dry, cracked pads:
