Recommendation for a beautiful hike , driving from nyc.

Hi, I'm looking to go hiking this saturday outside of nyc, approximately 2-3 hours driving. Would love to see some great scenery and if the hike was a little challenging, that would be fine too Hoping to hike for at least three hours, no more than 5-6 though. . Also, could you recommend what sort of gear I might want to bring, I prefer to go as light as possible.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Overlook mountain near Woodstock is five miles round trip. Fire tower at the summit. Jeep trail. There is an option to hike to Echo lake - single track and will add about three miles. I would have to check to be sure.

Lots of trails in the north/south lake campgrounds. Nearest village is Haines Falls

This trail runs North-South along the MA/NY Border.

Couple hours from the city. some good summits, and scenery.

I know this reply is a bit late, but perhaps others would like to hear of this destination.
