Sierra is opening up

Sonora and Ebbetts Passes are now open--although the raods are narrow channels through tall walls of snow.  Still, we're getting closer!

They are still working on the Tioga Pass Road through Yosemite.  Thick ice and a damaged road bed is making the process much more difficult than usual.  The latest opening of the road in history is July 1.  That  might change this year.

I like to stay below the snow and go up in elevation as it melts.  This year 2024 is still above average precip.  Headed to Sierra Valley on Friday.  There will be some snow around, April 20 even at 6,000 feet.

The last report of the season from Yosemite's winter rangers.
