Hello from Charlotte

Hello! I grew up camping and hiking and still enjoy hitting the trails when I can but I have never backpacked. I am interested in getting into backpacking and I hope to find some good information here. I registered for a backpacking and survival course offered at McDowell Nature Preserve here in Charlotte next month. I also have joined some hiking Meetup groups in hopes of meeting someone who can show me the ways. Please, let me know if you have any tips, suggestions, or advice.
