The weatherman predicts 80 degree weather this weekend. YAY. Looking forward to hiking in shorts after a long winter. I'm Jenny..nice to read this blog.

Hiked on Sunday up the Hobart trail from the Carson city side headed to Hobart Reservoir and the Red House. We heard there would still be snow so we stuffed our snowshoes into our little camelbaks. As we headed up the trail we saw a herd of about 30 deer. More and more, they just kept appearing in an opening in the woods, like clowns getting out of a Volkswagon. Amazing way to start the hike. We made it up to 7200 feet to the Ghost of the Sawmill (a relic from 1870). Stopped for lunch, then decided with the heavier snow in the forested area, we'd head back down the mountain , saving the Red House for another day.

Hi Jenny,

Welcome to the site! We have a few destinations in mind where we're waiting just a little longer for the snow to retreat, but it seems to be melting away quickly this year. (Unless you count last weekend which looked more like winter here) Next time I'm on a hike and am able to spot a few deer through the trees I'm definitely going to think of that analogy! :D
