gear advice for the Narrows

has anyone hiked the Narrows in Zion National Park in Utah?.  

what type of shows for water crossings and hiking in water?

I haven't hiked the Narrows (did some other trails in Zion, but not this one) but the weather is probably the biggest factor. Aside from runoff, I'd be concerned about flash floods in the summer. I'd recommend going in a group if possible and if you think a flash flood is possible, bring a rope and tie yourselves together. 

I don't have recommendations on shoes as I usually just hike in my regular hiking shoes and let them dry out as I hike or at camp.
