I never could bring myself to drink the dishwater.

This cracked me up: one of my kids always gave me grief for drinking the dishwater... until there were other kids his age at a campsite. Then he knocked back his dishwater like he was a cowboy doing tequila shots.

The best tip for cleaning dishes is not making them too dirty. If you somehow do it, scrape off as much food as possible before washing. Also, I often use paper towels.

All above is especially important when you don’t have much water for cleaning.

I bought the Fozzil folding  bowls. Looking forward to using them. Since they open up flat they could serve other purposes--cheese & crackers, prep surface, etc.

Yeah, drinking the water or "gut sumping" as it's sometimes called is gross, but it eliminates trying to find a place to responsibly get rid of it.

Wood ash is a good solution if you have a campfire going. It is freely available, safe for the environment, and works well for cleaning. I add a few drops of water to make a paste and use it like I would soap. But don’t use it to clean yourself though – it is too harsh :)
