Things are a little dicey here in LA with Carmeggedon II shutting down the Westside and some prime hiking spots. I am going East to a little regional park that is nestled between suburbs and mountains, should be interesting and about 8-9 miles. How bout y'all?

I'm heading out tomorrow with a couple of buddies on a short overnighter along the AT. Dicks Creek Gap to Deep gap. This is in my back yard and I've never hiked this section. Should be nice cool weather for me to try out some new gear before winter.

My friends and I are spending the weekend at Clair Tappaan Lodge. It's the Sierra Club Lodge built in the early 1930's at Donner. Yes, the same Donner as the ill fated Donner Party. [gulp]. http://http://www.sierraclub.org/outings/lodges/ctl/

Today we hiked though the snow sheds --train tunnels, really, from the Old Union Pacific Railroad. http://http://cprr.org/Museum/Summit_Tunnel_1999/index.html

Tomorrow we'll hike southbound a bit on the PCT from Sugar Bowl Ski area.

Jason, wow, to have the AT in your back yard... :) That is pretty cool that you are so close to it though... I know if I were that close I would be out there probably more than at home... :) Anyway, next time I am over that way we should get together for a hike...

TollerMom, that sounds like some fun hiking! I am planning to get out west next September to do the WT...I am looking forward to that for sure...

I may be able to squeeze out next weekend with my son for an overnighter, although, I am not so sure where we will go if we do...the drives are a bit long for a quick overnighter... but then in 2 more weeks my wife and I will be hiking the Roan Highlands! I can't wait for that...I am looking forward to hiking over those balds...

Couldn't make it out yesterday so an overnighter is out of the question for this weekend, but might head out for a quick hike this evening. With colder weather on the way here, definitely need to rack up some miles and nights before the winter gear has to come out! :D

Shoot yeah Stick a hike sounds great. We get out at least once a month. I see you posted a comment on my trip video...the video looked to dark when I looked at it later so I'm redoin it. To answer your question about the stove it's a bushcooker lt1 by four dog stove. Great little stove and it can use alcohol and esbit. It actually comes with a little tea light type cup that holds about .75 oz. it will bring 1.75 cups to a boil barely but will do in a pinch. Using esbit works very well. Well tomorrow I should have the video back up so everyone check it out. I sound like a hillbilly but I guess I am so that's ok. Haha.

I made it out on Sunday, whoa Nelly was it hot. I got to a pretty cool canyon that doesn't see many visitors but paid the price, a lot of roller coaster hills and was sucking the water pretty much all day. Still, great to get out and about!
