Ozarks advice anyone?

So, in 10 days the wife and I are going to the Foo Fighters concert in Memphis.  I figured we can't come home without taking the few hour detour to the Ozarks.  We will have 2 nights, need a loop hike or out and back.  I've never been to the Ozarks and probably won't be back for a long while.  Any advice on what trail to hit while I'm there?

Background... we are pretty serious hikers, 30+ nights backpacking per year.  We prefer to hammock camp, but can tent if regulations require.  Thanks in advance for any input.

Depends on where you want to go and where you are ultimately going home to.

I don't know enough about the Ozark Tr in Missouri to comment as I'm waiting for the 1000+ mile Trans Ozark Tr to be finished to thru-hike it. I have done all of The Buffalo River TR including a bushwack connecting two trail less segments which IMO would make for a nice 25 mile two nighter(not the bushwack part.

Beta, free BRT maps, thanks to Tim Ernst, here: The Nat Geo TI Buffalo River map might work for hiking too but I preferred Ernst's BRT topos.

You might consider the North Sylamore creek Tr too, a 15-23 mile pt to pt. There are shuttlers in the Mountain View Arkansas area. This is a nice hike I've done while taking on some Ozark Higlands Tr mileage in Arkansas.

  • 5 weeks later...

Hurricane Creek Wilderness, North of Russellville, on the Ozark Highlands Trail. By going out on the trail and back on the high water bypass, you can get a lollipop loop. Enter from Fairview TH or Fort Douglas/Big Piney TH
