New guy in Arizona

Greetings from the central desert of Arizona.  I'm a recovering couch potato. Before my now 15 year old son was born I hiked all over AZ.  The kid hates the Arizona outdoors because of the heat.  He loves the cold and should have been raised in Minnesota!  I've been here 21 years and never hiked more than a few hundred feet down Bright Angel into Grand Canyon. I'll be 50 next year, and will graduate with my BA in Public Relations in 2017.  As a joint celebration I want to hike rim-to-river, maybe rim-to-rim.  I have a lot of work to do and even more questions.  If you've hiked the canyon or are interested in doing it, it would be cool to chat.
