Didn't know what PPPPD was until now but now I do B).

If I have the time to prep properly, I will count the calories for each meal/snack/etc. for the day. At first I would pack about 3000 calories thinking with all the hiking I would need the extra energy. Instead I find my appetite is bit less when I hike so now I package about 2200-2300 calories a day. And still I find myself coming off the trail with uneaten items. As for PPPPD, I am normally around 1.5 lbs.

I plan on 1.5 lbs of food per day personally as well. My usual strategy is to throw a rough collection of meals and snacks together by day, then weigh the lot, and I'm always over when it hits the scale. By going back through and removing things here and there and getting closer to that 1.5 PPPPD mark I know I'm taking enough food without taking too much.
