For the past two hours, we'd worked our way up the gentle, trail-less slope, gaining another 1500 feet in addition to the already high elevation, no easy task for two and dog who all at the time weren't acclimated to altitude. Stopping to catch our breath didn't last long; increasing clouds and the threat of storms were a constant motivation to move over the pass and descend as fast as possible. At the pass itself we were battered by fierce winds that made it a challenge to simply walk normally. But we knew not what the other side of the pass had in store...

Thoroughly enjoyed the story about finding the stake.  What a great memory you will have to share for years to come.  Beautiful scenery!
